BYD‘s second-generation Seagull (named Dolphin Mini/Surf in some international markets) is scheduled to launch on October 20. The vehicle, which has already opened for blind pre-orders, features upgrades to its physical dimensions and the integration of high-level intelligent driving systems, including LiDAR.
Exterior and design
The new Seagull will be available in six exterior colour options. The front fascia features a closed grille design, accented by sharp, multi-faceted lines and polygonal light clusters. The roof is equipped with a LiDAR sensor, signalling a boost in the vehicle’s advanced driver-assistance system (ADAS) capabilities.
The side profile has semi-concealed door handles, gloss-black wheels, and a hidden B/C/D-pillar design. The rear features a new taillight assembly and a prominent rear diffuser panel.
Dimensions
The new model is larger than the current version. The dimensions are as follows:
- Length: 4,205 mm
- Width: 1,810 mm
- Height: 1,570 mm
- Wheelbase: 2,650 mm
Compared to the outgoing model, the vehicle is 425 mm longer, with the wheelbase extended by 150 mm.

Interior and utility
Inside, the cabin has been redesigned. The dashboard features a larger central touchscreen. While the traditional instrument cluster is gone, the design keeps select physical buttons for ease of use. Practical additions include a wireless charging pad and a spacious central storage area. The interior is rounded out by a minimalist, new two-spoke steering wheel.

Powertrain
The all-new BYD Seagull remains a pure electric vehicle. It is powered by a permanent magnet synchronous motor (model TZ164XYB) produced by Zhengzhou BYD Auto Co., Ltd., delivering 95 kW (127 hp) of maximum power. The vehicle is expected to be equipped with the second-generation lithium iron phosphate (LFP) Blade Battery, which supports flash charging, with both the battery cells and the assembly manufactured by Shaoxing FinDreams Battery Co., Ltd.
The ongoing BYD Seagull delivered 83,604 units from January to September 2026 in China, down 66% YoY, according to China EV DataTracker.
