CATL officially launched Tectrans Ⅱ, its next-generation battery solution for commercial vehicles, at IAA Transportation 2026 in Hannover. Tectrans is CATL’s commercial vehicle battery brand. Not long ago, It launched the Tectrans II ultra-fast charging battery in China, which supports 8C charging speeds.
A modular platform
Tectrans Ⅱ is engineered as a versatile, modular platform capable of supporting heavy-duty and medium-duty trucks, as well as buses. By configuring varying numbers of standardised battery packs, the system supports a maximum driving range of up to 1,000 km.
The platform offers significant economic and operational advantages:
- Development efficiency: According to CATL, the modular design allows OEMs to shorten vehicle development cycles by 50% and reduce R&D costs by 60% to 70%.
- Payload and efficiency: With a gravimetric energy density of 170 Wh/kg – approximately 13% above the industry average – vehicles can carry about 0.6 tonnes of additional payload. Furthermore, the system achieves a 96% round-trip efficiency (RTE).
- Charging and performance: The battery supports megawatt-level fast charging, enabling an 80% charge in 25 minutes. For heavy-duty trucks, the system is engineered for a 12-year, 1.5 million km service life with 70% capacity retention.

Safety and reliability
Tectrans Ⅱ incorporates physical protection, including:
- Structural integrity: A hot-formed steel upper cover designed to withstand 180 kg of pressure 10,000 times, and an ultra-strong bottom plate providing 1,000 J of impact resistance.
- Durability: An extruded-aluminium enclosure with crush-resistant ribs delivers lateral crush strength up to 250 kN, alongside 15-year corrosion resistance for operation in harsh environments.
- System redundancy: Multi-branch independent BMS control allows the system to isolate failed branches, ensuring the vehicle can continue to operate.
Strategic partnerships for green freight
At the event, CATL signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with DHL Group to develop “Green Freight Corridors” across Europe. This partnership will leverage DHL’s logistics network and CATL’s electrification ecosystem to co-develop purpose-built electric vehicles and launch pilot deployments.
