- The limited edition is the most expensive Freelander 8 variant, with a pre-sales list price of 459,900 yuan ($67,820) and production limited to 1,000 units.
- The Freelander 8 is set to officially launch later today.
The Freelander brand, revived through a joint venture between Chery (HKEX: 9973) and Jaguar Land Rover (JLR), said the highest-priced variant of its first model has sold out.
The brand said on Wednesday that all 1,000 units of the Freelander 8 launch limited edition had been sold. The variant had a list price of 459,900 yuan ($67,820), while its price after firm-order incentives was 449,900 yuan.
The Freelander 8's global launch event will be held in Beijing later today, when official pricing will be announced.
The vehicle opened for pre-sales in China on August 14 with a starting price of 339,900 yuan. At the Chengdu Auto Show on August 21, the brand announced a starting price of 329,900 yuan after incentives. The Max version started at 359,900 yuan after incentives, while the Max+ version started at 409,900 yuan.
The Freelander 8 received more than 10,000 pre-orders within 48 hours of pre-sales opening. However, pre-order figures announced by automakers in China are typically based on refundable deposits and have no direct correlation with final deliveries.
The vehicle measures 5,118 mm in length, 2,050 mm in width and 1,898 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3,040 mm. It is available in 5-seat and 2+2+2 6-seat configurations.
The luxury extended-range electric SUV (sport utility vehicle) comes standard with Huawei's Qiankun ADS 5 driver-assistance system and is among the first vehicles globally to feature Qualcomm's automotive-grade Snapdragon 8397 chip, which delivers 320 TOPS of computing power.
The vehicle also has a 1.5-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder range extender with a thermal efficiency of 45.79%. Its dual-motor all-wheel-drive system produces a combined 610 kW (818 hp) and 813 Nm of peak torque, enabling it to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.6 seconds.
Its battery is supplied by CATL (HKEX: 3750) and has a capacity of 60.3 kWh, providing a CLTC battery-only range of 310 kilometers. Built on an 800-volt 6C high-voltage extended-range platform, the vehicle can charge from 20% to 80% in as little as 12 minutes.
The cabin features a 46.3-inch far-field display, a 15.6-inch Mini LED central screen and a 17.3-inch ceiling-mounted rear display.
Freelander was originally a classic model line under Jaguar Land Rover. It was elevated into a standalone brand focused on new energy vehicles (NEVs) on March 31 and plans to launch 6 models over the next 5 years.
The first production Freelander 8 rolled off the assembly line at the Changshu plant in Jiangsu province on July 30. Its first overseas version will be a left-hand-drive model for the Middle East, which is expected to launch between the end of this year and early next year.
