The BYD Racco electric kei car was launched in the first market outside Japan. It landed in Sri Lanka with an introductory price of 11,450,000 lankan rupees (34,615 USD). This model will shortly enter Macau as well. The Racco boasts a 47 kW electric motor and 320 km of range under WLTC conditions.
The BYD Racco kei car was first introduced to Japan in late July 2026, receiving 1,000 orders just two weeks after the launch. Priced between 2,140,000 and 2,497,000 yen (13,555 – 15,815 USD), it was offered in three trim levels: 200, 300 Plus, and 300 Premium. It was later revealed that BYD plans to launch this micro car outside Japan, with Sri Lanka and Macau among the first RHD markets.

According to BYD Sri Lanka, the Racco kei car became available for purchase at 11,450,000 lankan rupees (34,615 USD), which is 2.5 times higher than the starting price in Japan. At the same time, BYD Sri Lanka officials highlighted that it is an introductory price valid through November 9. This means the Racco will become even more expensive once this period expires.
It is worth noting that cars are generally expensive in Sri Lanka due to import duties and taxes. For clarity, the petrol-powered Toyota Yaris Cross costs 19,950,000 lankan rupee (60,315 USD) in the island. So, the Racco kei car seems to be reasonably priced, bearing in mind the local conditions.
The BYD Racco is a front-wheel-drive kei car with a blocky body shape and dimensions of 3395/1475/1800 mm with a wheelbase of 2,520 mm. This small EV boasts a minimum turning radius of 4.8 meters. It has four seats and a trunk for 280 liters. Two LFP battery options are available: 22.4 and 35.84 kWh. They send power to an electric motor with a peak output of 47 kW (63 hp) and 160 Nm. The car’s electric range lies between 210 km and 320 km, depending on the battery option.
