BYD officially launched the second-generation Seagull today. The updated hatchback comes with several enhancements, including larger dimensions, a new five-seat configuration, second-generation Blade Battery technology with Flash-Charging, and an optional LiDAR system.
The Seagull has a couple of different international names, depending on the market, including Dolphin, Surf, Dolphin Mini, or Atto 1.
The new model is available in five trim levels. Below is the pricing structure for the new lineup:
| Trim level | Official price (yuan and USD) |
|---|---|
| Vitality Edition | 65,900 (9,800) |
| Freedom Edition | 72,900 (10,900) |
| Ease Edition | 75,900 (11,300) |
| Flight Edition | 82,900 (12,400) |
| Smart Edition | 99,900 (14,900) |
The second-gen Seagull is cheaper than the 2025 version, which started at 69,900 yuan (10,500 USD), making the 2027 entry version 700 USD cheaper.

Enhanced dimensions
The new Seagull is larger. The small hatchback is 4,205 mm long, 1,810 mm wide, and 1,570 mm high, with a 2,650 mm wheelbase. Compared to the outgoing model (3,780 mm × 1,715 mm × 1,540 mm and 2,500 mm wheelbase), the new generation offers a more spacious cabin, now accommodating five passengers instead of four.
This makes the new Seagull 425 mm longer, with a 150 mm longer wheelbase, bringing it closer to the BYD Dolphin. Rear cargo capacity is 1,380 liters, while the new frunk offers 94 liters of space.
The exterior continues the “Marine Aesthetics” design language, featuring a low-slung, sporty stance and a “trident” position light design. Customers can choose from six exterior colours: Lime Green, Berry Pink, Cream White, Mango Orange, Ice Coconut Blue, and Sesame Grey.

Intelligent cockpit
Inside, the cabin features a horizontal layout with refined materials and three new colour schemes: Shell White, Clear Sky Pink, and Polar Star Grey. The vehicle is equipped with the DiLink 150 intelligent cockpit system, centred around a 15.6-inch display powered by a full-version DeepSeek AI.
Comfort features have been upgraded, including:
- 6-way power-adjustable driver’s seat and 4-way power-adjustable front passenger seat.
- Three-level heating and ventilation for both front seats, with multi-mode massage for the driver.
- 50W wireless phone charging, 127-colour ambient lighting, and an 8-speaker audio system.
- new 94L front trunk and a rear cargo area expandable up to 1,380L.

Driving assistance and safety
A major highlight of the new Seagull is the DiPilot 300 “God’s Eye” LiDAR-based driving assistance system (ADAS). It enables advanced features such as City Navigation on Autopilot (CNOA), High-speed Navigation on Autopilot (HNOA), traffic-light recognition with countdowns, and full-scenario obstacle avoidance.
Safety is bolstered by a “ten-horizontal, four-vertical” cage-style body structure, up to six airbags, and a tire blowout stabilization system.
Powertrain and efficiency
The new Seagull is powered by electric motors producing 85 kW (114 hp) or 95 kW (127 hp), both delivering 130 N·m of torque. It utilizes BYD’s second-generation Blade Battery, available in 30.1 kWh and 39.2 kWh capacities, offering CLTC-rated ranges of 320 km (~259 km WLTP) and 420 km (~340 km WLTP), respectively. The energy consumption is rated at 9.0 kWh/100 km. The vehicle also features a multi-link independent rear suspension and a tight turning radius of 4.95 meters.
The top three trim models with the bigger 39.2 kWh battery offer the main upgrade: Flash Charging, which lets the car charge from 10% to 70% in 5 minutes, according to BYD.

BYD Seagull sold 266,000 units globally in the first nine months of 2026 (January-September), down 33% from the same period last year. However, the decline was much sharper in China, with Seagull sales down 66% to 83,600 units.
One main reason is Geely’s EX2 (Xingyuan), a small hatchback that is currently China’s best-selling car. From January to September, it sold 310,000 units, overtaking China’s second-best-selling car, the Tesla Model Y, which sold 277,000 units.
With aggressive pricing, ADAS, larger dimensions, and Flash Charging, BYD expects the new Seagull to make a comeback in the small hatchback segment.
